Why
Is Miss Justice Blindfolded To
Issues
Of Domestic Violence?
The generally accepted reason for the lady to appear
blindfolded
is if justice is not seeing who they are judging then the decisions
will not be subject to unfair inequalities. However,
concerning
these issues of domestic violence; not seeing the people in the case is
not necessary because it is clear without seeing that we are dealing
with injuries usually from a man to a woman. Knowing this the
decisions that have been made by the justice system can certainly have
been made with a bias for males against women.
Since courts
have ruled that we do
not have a right to stop violence against women while the woman is in
the home she shares with a man, the symbolism of Miss Justice
blindfolded means something else to me from my experience with domestic
violence.
To me, the
blindfold tells me that
justice does not apply to issues of domestic violence. It
seems
to me that men have blindfolded Miss Justice. Men did this so that
measures will not be taken to protect women from domestic violence
since they consider it a man's right to inflict unjury as long as it is
in his own home. With what has transpired to date with the
justice system failing to recognize the laws to protect women from
domestic violence, no other logical determination could be reached.
We have seen the
dragging of the
justice system's feet in the past concerning enforcing laws
concerning citizens that are not white Anglo-Saxon males.
After how many years of waiting to cast their vote was the
Black
man prevented from doing so by the poll taxes? There is a
history
of getting laws past and then the laws never being used when they
promote changes that those that harbor prejudices would prefer not to
exist.
This
topic is addressed as well as many more in the book Family Terror.
As a victim of domestic violence it is my opinion that no
book
has ever addressed domestic violence in as much detail. If
