Justice
For Victims Of Domestic Violence
. . .Or No Justice,
Which Will It Be?
As a victim of domestic violence you truly are a victim of a crime.
Whether the justice system decides to look at it that way is
going to depend on you. Have you gathered evidence that will
help
the criminal case be won by the prosecutor? Ideally this is
the
case. However, my experience is that the prosecutor will do
everything he can to avoid helping you and prosecuting the man for the
violence and injuries that have been inflicted upon you. The
laws
exist for your protection but if you are not persistent no one will see
it as a crime, even though you know that it is.
The laws have
been rarely used in
domestic violence cases. For things to change, the victims
must
be approaching the prosecutor ready with evidence for the prosecutor to
be successful.
Hopefully with enough
victims being ready
with evidence for the prosecution, the willingness to address
these crimes of domestic violence will be increased. Then
domestic violence can be acknowledged for what it is . . . A crime
committed against a woman.
