Intentional Tort Statutes--------Watch Out!
When a victim escapes domestic violence, she has a big battle ahead of
her. This victim must provide income for survival for herself
and any children. Also, consoling and comforting th echildren
will be necessary for many mmonths after the escape. The
victim will be dealing most likely with Post Truamatic Stress Disorder
and have severe fears of the abuser coming to retaliate for her escape.
And guess what? Kansas and many other states have a limit of
time of only one year for the victim to file an intentional tort civil
case against the abuser. This is not realistic for the victim
to be ready to file a civil case in that short period of
time. These statutes need to be changed for victims fo
domestic violence against women.
We can not let these laws bar us from making our claim asking for
justice against our abusers.
